GENERAL ACADEMY INFORMATION

K-12 teachers in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois are invited to participate in Chiwaukee Academy, held on the UW-Parkside campus each summer.  Chiwaukee Academy was founded in 1997 and is one of nine academies held around the state during the summer.  Careful attention is given to standards and benchmarks, equity, diversity, and assessment in all courses.  The newest theories will be discussed and ideas about how to move them into practice will be shared by experienced teacher presenters.

WELCOME TEACHERS

When you attend Chiwaukee Academy, you will become the student, and University Parkside will become your classroom.

When you complete this engaging week-long educational experience, you will have gained:

bullet

An increased understanding of concepts presented through problem solving, cooperative learning, inquiry/discovery, application, and hands-on demonstrations that encourage curriculum integration.

bullet

Access to the electronic highway and methods to integrate technology in math, science, social studies, and reading/language arts instruction.

bullet

An understanding of standards-based instruction.

bullet

Experience with outstanding educators who are recognized nationally and on the state level as leaders in their fields.

bullet

An understanding of new subject matter and innovative ways to implement instructional strategies in your classroom using inexpensive materials.

bullet

Experience with hands-on activities and leaning techniques.

bullet

An opportunity to speak individually with business and industry representatives and tour prominent companies in southeastern Wisconsin.

You may earn undergraduate or graduate-level credit for your work.  Most of all, we hope that you will take back to your classroom the knowledge, techniques, and resources you have obtained during your week as a participant in the Chiwaukee Academy.
