EARLY INTERVENTION IN MATHEMATICS
(Guided Math)

CREDIT: 2 or 3
Kindergarten and first graders'
mathematics skills emerge at
different times and with differing
levels of understanding of
mathematics concepts. This
early intervention program supports
the National Council for Teaching
Mathematics (NCTM) standards,
specifically that mathematics skills
will be developed in depth and
instruction will promote
"sense-making." As children
develop mathematics sense,
intervention will occur with those
who miss central concepts.
This course will discuss how, when,
and why intervention occurs.
